Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important representative stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
